Van driver deliberately ploughed into worshippers in London: Muslim Council of Britain

A police forensic tent is erected at Finsbury Park in north London, where a vehicle struck pedestrians in north London Monday, June 19, 2017.

Shocking terror attack outside Finsbury Park mosque.

"They were very nervous, shouting very loud, trying desperately to make some signs to a police vehicle that was ... just passing the road", she told CNN.

Kozbar complained that the "mainstream media" was unwilling to call the attack a terrorist incident for many hours.

The investigation is still ongoing and no further suspects have been identified.

Video posted online of the aftermath of the attack showed a scene of chaos as people tried to help the injured.

A New Zealand man has witnessed the carnage outside a London mosque after a van hit several pedestrians.

Police arrested the van's driver, but were trying to determine whether the collision was accidental or deliberate.

Someone in the crowd is heard yelling, "No-one touch him!"

She is now scheduled to chair an emergency response meeting on Monday.

The driver was arrested and taken to a hospital as a precaution. May says police are treating the crash as a potential terrorist attack.

"Some of our community members have been attacked", he said, adding that while the mosque has a security team in place it did not want police protection during Ramadan, as the armed police presence could have put panic into worshippers.

Norris said he saw the driver of the van running toward a gate before being caught by a group of men.

He said: "During the night, ordinary British citizens were set upon while they were going about their lives, completing their night worship".

"The British Muslim community requires all decent people to stand with us against this evil violence", he said, adding that "rampant Islamophobia has been on the rise for a number of years".

Eight people were taken to hospital and two more were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Numerous victims are believed to have just finished worshipping at the Finsbury Park mosque after breaking the Ramadan fast.

Police have not yet determined whether the fatality was a result of the van attack. "An attack on one community is an attack on all of us", said Police Commissioner Cressida Dick.

"I think there are people dead and there are injured people as well", he said. One person was killed and 10 were hurt.

Police have also denied rumors that a knife was involved.

The Islington borough of North London, of which Finsbury Park is a part, is home to a large Muslim community. "All my thoughts are with the victims, their families and the emergency services on the scene".

Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn, said: "I'm totally shocked at the incident at Finsbury Park tonight".

BREAKING: We have been informed that a van has run over worshippers as they left #FinsburyPark Mosque.

Helicopters buzzed overhead, and ambulances and police cars raced to the scene.

The MCB said its "prayers are with the victims".

The mosques were busy with people observing the holy month of Ramadan.

"People were just conversing, talking, just doing what we're doing", said the man, who declined to give his name. Many police cars and ambulances were responding.

Police have given out little information, but are calling it a "major incident".

The city's Metropolitan Police said officers were called just after midnight Sunday to an incident on Seven Sisters Road.

Transportation officials said roads in the area were being closed.
