Van hits Muslims after night prayers

British police have arrested a man after a van was driven into a late-night crowd near a mosque in north London.

Numerous victims are believed to have just finished worshipping at the Finsbury Park mosque after breaking the Ramadan fast.

Police confirmed they were on the scene of the collision in Finsbury Park and that several people were receiving medical treatment. They said there were a number of casualties and one person had been arrested.

This story will be updated as new information becomes available. Police said eight of the injured were hospitalized; the other two had minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

The mosque in question - Finsbury Park Mosque - has a reputation as a focal point for radical Islamists.

The Muslim Council tweeted that worshippers had been struck and said its prayers were with the victims. According to Vikram Dodd, The Guardian's crime correspondent, counter-terrorism police are assisting local authorities, who are looking into whether the driver's moves were intentional. "Prime Minister Theresa May has not yet called the incident an "attack" or terrorism" but said her "thoughts are with those who have been injured, their loved ones and the emergency services on the scene".

The incident followed a series of attacks in Britain. This comes after a month after three knife-wielding Islamist attackers went on a rampage in London killing seven people.
