Vehicle strikes several pedestrians on road in north London

Police have arrested one person in connection to the incident, the Guardian reported.

The police said the incident took place near Finsbury Park Mosque in Seven Sisters Road. "Eight people injured were taken to three separate hospitals", police said in a statement, adding that two other people were treated for minor injuries.

"There are a number of casualties", the police said in an earlier statement.

The Sun newspaper said a van hit a crowd of people near Finsbury Park mosque.

On social media, witnesses said they believed the victims had been performing Tarawih, the evening prayers performed by Sunni Muslims at night in the Islamic month of Ramadan.

The Finsbury Park mosque has been associated with radical Islamist ideology in the past, but its image changed after it was shut down and reopened under a new management.

It came weeks after three Isis supporters rammed a van into pedestrians on London Bridge before rampaging through Borough Market with knives, killing eight people before being shot dead by police.

Green Party co-leader Caroline Lucas said her thoughts were with the community and emergency services, adding: "We will not be divided". She said a police officer was doing what looked like a "cardiac massage, as if they might have had a bad heart or something".

"Enough is enough, my condolences and prayers for all the victims and their families. I just hope they did".

The 32-year-old told the Press Association: "There were a lot of people in the street, crossing the street, going to mosque for prayers, for forgiveness, just to pray and go home and eat".

This incident is coming weeks after suspected attacks on the United Kingdom by suspected terrorists.

March 22 Westminster Bridge attack: On March 22, 2017 five people were killed and 40 others were left wounded, when a suspected terrorist mowed down pedestrians on a bridge and stabbed a police officer outside parliament complex. The investigation of the incident is being carried out by the Counter Terrorism Command, police say. One person was killed and 10 were hurt.

Police said the 48-year-old man who was driving the auto has been arrested and taken to a hospital as a precaution. "Everybody was shouting: "A van's hit people, a van's hit people", she said.
