Warriors unanimously decline White House visit, per reports

Reports on Twitter indicate that the NBA champion Golden State Warriors have unanimously voted to skip a visit with President Donald Trump at the White House

"Today is all about celebrating our championship", the Warriors said in a statement released Tuesday, hours after the team dethroned the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.

The Warriors' rejection of the White House's invitation builds on the sentiment expressed by several New England Patriots who announced they would not attend the Trump White House ceremony in April.

Curry is not the only member of the Warriors organization opposed to the views of President Trump.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr has ripped into Trump several times, the last he called Trump a "blowhard". And forward David West made it clear Trump went against his belief system.

The @Warriors' leadership is inspiring.

Presidents have hosted world champion sports teams for decades, but the tradition has become a hot-button topic for athletes in recent years.

"I'm sure as a team we're gonna have a conversation (about a potential visit)", he said.

The statement knocked down reports on social media that the team had unanimously decided not to visit the White House.

For the second straight year the National Basketball Association (NBA) champs are visiting Las Vegas as part of their championship celebration.

The defending World Series champion Chicago Cubs chose to visit the White House in January to celebrate their historic 2016 title with former IL senator and outgoing President Barack Obama before he left office.

The championship-winning Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs also visited the White House under Obama.
