With help of Indian Army, nine Kashmiri students crack IIT entrance exam

Army chief General Bipin Rawat today personally met and congratulated students of Super 40 initiative in Kashmir.

Having served in IOK in four stints, Rawat said the "situation was good" during his first posting in the state in 1981.

This group had quietly enrolled for coaching under the army's initiative to give children from the state a better chance to join the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) when their friends were out on the streets. According to an Army spokesperson, there were thirty six students in the batch out of which nine cleared the exam.

Despite major unrest in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, nine Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) aspirants managed to crack the IIT Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2017 after undergoing coaching with the Indian Army.

Gen. Rawat questioned as to how many more generations will have to see the gunfire and smoke from explosives. Two cleared the JEE Mains and are now eligible for admission to engineering courses in Jamia Millia University and Jamia Hamdard University in Delhi.
