'Wonder Woman' cruises past 'The Mummy' at box office

Tom Cruise in'The Mummy

Dark Universal's The Mummy completely failed to give any competition to Marvel Studios and DC Films" fourth installment "Wonder Woman.' However, Tom cruise's "The Mummy" has hit the China box office on Thursday and grossed $18.7 million, this is the highest opening ever for Tom Cruise's career, the film also hit the theaters in Russian Federation on Thursday as well and did the business of $1.6 million. Though you have to wonder how the next film will do without the strength of Cruise's allure to carry it.

"Wonder Woman" collected more than $58.5 million between Friday and Sunday, giving it a two-week total of $206.3 million, according to comScore.

The box-office reign of Wonder Woman is all but certain to end next weekend when Pixar's Cars 3 opens.

Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) and Princess Diana (Gal Gadot) team up during World War I in "Wonder Woman". It has a dismal 17 per cent "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Brexit minister Davis says UK could still walk away with no deal
May needs the support of the DUP to govern, after a disastrous election result in which she lost her parliamentary majority. But with so much at stake for Britain and its US$2.5 trillion economy, pressure was mounting on May heed other voices.

Universal's The Mummy is -6% today with $11.25M from its opening day of $12M. Wonder Woman hit the theaters on last weekend and did the record breaking first-weekend box office business at the United State box office.

It was a bumpy weekend for Universal's launch of its Dark Universe series of horror-ish movies, as the new take on The Mummy fizzled out a little at the American box office. The Mummy's opening ranks lower than the domestic debuts of all the Brendan Fraser Mummy movies and its spinoff The Scorpion King ($36M) which starred Dwayne Johnson.

There is, however, a saving grace to having Tom Cruise in The Mummy. Most of the reviews on Wonder Woman are positive when compared to The Mummy. That's a natural evolution that's happened in the business. It's not the result of the picture's strength or Cruise's drawing power, rather it is driven by the new opening paradigm in the marketplace.

In third on North American screens was DreamWorks Animation's "Captain Underpants", based on the popular children's books by Dav Pilkey.
