A Delray Beach, Florida, toddler died Saturday after allegedly being left in a hot vehicle for hours, as reported by Sun Sentinel.

Khayden Saint Sauveur may have been trapped in the auto for hours outside his home before his family found him, Delray Beach police said.

A police spokesperson said that when officers arrived, they noticed Khayden was unconscious inside the vehicle.

A police spokeswoman said it's still not clear how the child got into the vehicle. "I don't know why this happened".

They found Khayden unconscious before he was taken to Bethesda Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

"It's tragic", said Carly Saint Saveur, the child's uncle.

Action Saint Saveur "is not feeling well at all", his brother said.

Police said that one adult was home at the time Khayden is believed to have wandered outside to the driveway and opened the vehicle door on his own.

"Right now Delray Beach Police detectives are investigating to try to determine exactly what happened that led to this child being left in this vehicle", said Delray Beach Police spokesperson Dani Moschella.

A auto sitting out in South Florida's July heat can reach 150 degrees in minutes, police say. The National Weather Service reported that temperatures topped 90 degrees on the day in question. "If they're sitting in the driveway, hide the keys", Moschella said.

'He was always a jumpy little boy, ' Anderson Exantus, 19, said.
