Arbitrator overturns Gil Roberts' drug ban after sprinter's 'kissing' defense

Olympic gold medallist Gil Roberts has been cleared of failing a drugs test, after it was found that he ingested a banned substance by kissing his girlfriend. It's not just the kissing he said was responsible.

Roberts said his girlfriend, Alex Salazar, had been given medicine to treat a sinus infection while she was visiting India.

He added that she had to take the pills apart to make them easier to swallow. Salazar was unsure how many times they kissed between when she took the medicine and when Roberts was tested.

In Robert's case though, the smooch defense kind of sounds like the truth.

After conferring with two different doctors, the arbiter officially ruled "this was not a case of intentional doping".

Roberts, who had been provisionally suspended, has since competed in the 400m at last month's U.S. track and field championships, in which he qualified for August's World Championships in London by finishing second in 44.22 seconds, behind Fred Kerley.

Here's the thing though, Roberts isn't the first track athlete to blame KISSING on a positive drug test.

"Thus, for Roberts, it must have been like lightning out of a clear blue sky for him to learn that by kissing his girlfriend this time that he was exposing himself to a prohibited substance". Roberts, was part of Team USA's winning 4×400-meter relay team at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, finished second in the 400, and will compete in August at the world championships in London.

In a similar case, world pole vault champion Shawn Barber was cleared previous year of a positive test for cocaine. In 2009, tennis player Richard Gasquet said he kissed a woman with cocaine on her lips, leading to a positive test.
