An absolutely wild National Basketball Association preseason continues to offer up more drama as Kyrie Irving as seemingly informed Cleveland Cavaliers that he no longer wants to play for them.

The team is furiously skidding down the slope, as Irving places the cherry on top with his comment that the Cavs were in a "peculiar place" at the moment.

Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving, left, shoots against the Boston Celtics in the second half during Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals, on May 23, 2017 in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Chicago Sun-Times first reported that after the dismissal of Cavaliers general manager David Griffin, LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love could be headed for an unforeseen early breakup. Game of Thrones Comic-Con Trailer Teases Season 7
Check Out All the Latest News From San Diego Comic-Con! With last Sunday's premiere of Game of Thrones , the final war has begun. Actor John Bradley said they basically had to talk about it every five minutes "for a year".

They can do absolutely nothing, as a request is just a request, doing exactly what the Los Angeles Lakers did in the summer of 2007 when Kobe Bryant requested a trade.

Many assumed Irving was referring to rumours that James may consider leaving the Cavs in free agency in 2018.

Meanwhile, Cleveland is one of two teams that Carmelo Anthony has reportedly waived his no-trade clause to join, the other being the Houston Rockets. Irving's salary for next season is $18.868 million and he is still owed more than $60 million in his guaranteed deal.

Wechsler was tight-lipped when asked about the future of the 25-year-old Irving on Friday. He makes $12 million each of the next two seasons.

Irving was drafted first overall by the Cavs in 2011 after forgoing his final three seasons of eligibility at Duke.

There is certain to be major interest in Irving, who averaged a career-high 25.2 points and 5.8 assists last season.
