LeT man suspected in UP fidayeen attack held at city airport

Suspected LeT terrorist arrested from Mumbai airport- India Tv

He was deported from the United Arab Emirates.

UP Anti-Terror Police had been looking for Khan ever since the Rampur attacks carried out in 2008.

A suspected Lashkar operative, believed to be involved in an attack on a CRPF camp in Uttar Pradesh in 2008, was picked up and arrested from the global airport in the early hours of Monday. The anti-terrorism squad (ATS) teams of UP and Maharashtra are interrogating the suspect, Salim Khan alias Abu Amaar alias Arif. Khan is said to be a native of Hathgaon village in Fatehpur, UP.

Kausar and Sharif two accused arrested in the 2008 CRPF case reportedly informed police that Saleem Khan also took training with them at Muzzaffarabad terror camp. At least seven jawans were killed in the attack, which was conducted by terrorists who wore clothes resembling the CRPF uniform.

Sources said Khan was "pushed back" after authorities in UAE learnt about his illegal activities - raising funds for terrorists and communicating with them - in their country.

This arrest is followed by a Lashkar-e-Taiba module busted by Jammu and Kashmir police in which the cops arrested two people. While Saleem's family members were not accessible, station officer of Hathgawan police station Vinod Kumar Singh told The Indian Express that they had visited Saleem's house where his younger brother Kaleem said Saleem had left for Dubai around nine years ago and never contacted anybody in the family since then.

"Having obtained a Pakistani passport, Salim settled down in UAE to avoid arrest by the Indian security agencies", averred IG, UP ATS. Sandeep Sharma alias Adil, a resident of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, was also questioned last week by the Uttar Pradesh ATS after the arrest. When Ali was arrested from Faizabad for spying on military installations, he had revealed during his interrogation that it was Salim who used to wire money to him.
