NBA Report: Carmelo Anthony, Thunder Have Mutual Interest

Dallas Mavericks v New York Knicks

The 10-time All-Star was willing to waive his no-trade clause only if he was to be dealt to either the Houston Rockets or Cleveland Cavaliers.

If true, that'd please at least Anthony.

On Monday, The Ringer's Bill Simmons reported that the Oklahoma City Thunder and Anthony are "circling each other".

The Cavaliers are suddenly intriguing due to the Kyrie Irving trade request, but NY doesn't seem to have assets (outside of Kristaps Porzingis, who should be untouchable) that they could pair with Anthony to create an interesting package.

This may be a stunning revelation, but it's none too surprising when one considers the appeal of Oklahoma City.

Simmons noted that Thunder vice president Troy Weaver was the man that recruited Anthony to play his college ball at Syracuse.

Weaver stayed in the Syracuse staff for the duration of Anthony's rookie National Basketball Association season, later joining the Utah Jazz as a head scout and consequently working his way up the ranks. For the Houston Rockets, landing Carmelo would add to an already busy offseason in which they inked James Harden to a record contract extension and sprung a deal for Chris Paul.

Along with center Steven Adams, the Thunder would have a formidable core that could achieve a significant measure of success in the deep Western Conference.

Frank Isola of the New York Daily News is reporting that Carmelo Anthony remains "focused on getting a deal done with Houston".
