PayPal partners Samsung Pay

PayPal partners Samsung Pay

Samsung has added PayPal as a payment method in its mobile payments service Samsung Pay.

The move will allow Samsung's mobile payment platform Samsung Pay to be linked to PayPal accounts, which paves the way for Samsung to expand its consumer base, according to Samsung.

USA customers will receive the payment option now through an update, and Samsung hopes to spread the service to further geographic markets soon.

Samsung is entering into an "extended partnership" with PayPal to bring PayPal support to Samsung Pay. Apple Pay comes in second at 4%, and Android Pay comes last at 1.1%.

Customers will be able to use their Samsung Pay to access and use their PayPal wallet, letting them make a payment in millions of stores.

Samsung Pay is now fully available in 19 markets, having launched in its native South Korea back in August 2015 before landing in the U.S., China, Spain, and a number of markets across Europe, Asia, and Latin America.

PayPal has made a series of deals over the past year aimed at giving its mobile wallet more exposure for direct checkout.

"We will continue forging new collaborations with leaders across the tech and financial worlds to expand the reach of our products, explore new contexts, increase conversions for our merchants, create better mobile experiences and give our consumers the flexibility, security and speed that digital payments can offer", said said PayPal COO Bill Ready, in a blog post. PayPal users will now be able to use their PayPal wallet for offline payment transactions at millions of merchants where Samsung Pay is currently accepted, while Samsung Pay customers can leverage PayPal's Braintree assets for easier online checkout. The following year, PayPal was added as a payment method within Samsung Smart TVs.
