Sabrett hot dogs recalled due to bone fragments

Sabrett has recalled more than 7 million pounds of hot dogs because they may contain bone fragments

Almost 7.2 million pounds of hot dog products are being recalled because they could contain extraneous materials, specifically bone fragments.

A Bronx, New York, company is recalling millions of pounds of hot dogs because they could contain bone fragments.

There has been one reported minor oral injury associated with consumption of this product, according to the USDA.

Affected items mostly include certain packages of Sabrett natural casing beef frankfurters, hot sausages and cocktail franks produced between March 17 and July 4 of this year. "At that time, staff immediately investigated and identified an issue that could have allowed this to occur, and an equipment installation issue was quickly addressed".

The products subject to recall have the establishment number "EST".

Retail sales fall more than expected
The Commerce Department said retail sales fell by 0.2 percent in June after edging down by a revised 0.1 percent in May. Receipts weakened at department store, sporting goods outlets and restaurants.

Customers who already purchased the items are encouraged to throw them away, and contact Sabrett to receive a full refund. Complaints received through the FSIS hotline stated that pieces of bone were found in the product.
