Swansea man misses Pre-season tour after £40M Everton bid rejected

Gylfi Sigurdsson helped Swansea avoid the drop last season

A £40million bid from Everton for Swansea midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson has been rejected, according to reports.

The Swans revealed that Sigurdsson does not feel in "the right frame of mind" due to the ongoing speculation over his future.

The Express report the two clubs are negotiating, with the Icelandic worldwide making his desire clear by electing not to go on Swansea's pre-season trip to the U.S. yesterday.

The Welsh club value their player of the year and prized asset at £50m and, in a statement issued on behalf of the owners Steve Kaplan and Jason Levien on Friday, made it clear the price would not alter in light of Sigurdsson's stance.

Everton are reportedly eager to sign the Iceland global but are said to have seen a £40million bid rejected, with Paul Clement's side holding out for £50m. You'd rather not be in a situation where it drags through all of July and even when the season has started.

Paul Clement, who is desperate to keep the 27-year-old in order to help improve their league footing, has admitted he does not know what the future lies for his main man. He's professional like he's always been with me and, from what I'm seeing from him, he's not someone who is getting distracted or frustrated by things and I hope that continues.

Only two other players, Manchester City's Kevin de Bruyne and Tottenham's Christian Eriksen, brought more goals and assists to their teams. Clement claimed. "In the summer there was no thought of moving Jack on but it got to a point when another club came in with a really good offer".

Sigurdsson, whose contract runs to 2020, has been at Swansea on a permanent basis since 2014 after a disappointing two-year spell at Tottenham, who bought him from German outfit Hoffenheim for almost £9m. That might end up being the case with Gylfi. "We don't know yet".
