Trump on Don Jr's oppo meeting with the Russians: "That's politics!"

Trump on Don Jr's oppo meeting with the Russians:

Donald Trump Jr. had not previously disclosed Akhmetshin was in the meeting he attended along with Jared Kusher and Trump's campaign manager at the time, Paul Manafort. "We need information from the companies, as well as we need to look into the activities of some of the Trump digital campaign activities".

The June 2016 meeting, which Donald Trump Jr. agreed to organize after he was told that a representative of the Russian government would provide the campaign with dirt on Hillary Clinton, has become a focal point of ongoing scrutiny into the president's campaign's relationship with Russia. He praised Trump Jr.'s "transparency" for publishing the entire email chain in which the meeting was arranged, praising him as a "high-quality person" and "good kid". "That's very standard in politics; politics is not the nicest business in the world but it's very standard where they have information and you take the information".

But he maintains that his committee wants to know the contents of all of Kushner's meetings with Russians, as well as speak to Trump Jr. and Manafort.

In a statement to BuzzFeed News, a US Secret Service spokesperson said that Donald Trump Jr. was not under their protection at the time the meeting took place.

Opposition researchers from both parties have contested Trump's claim that such activity is common or accepted practice.

The drama surrounding Donald Trump Jr.'s Russian Federation meeting continues to unfold, and on Sunday, President Trump's attorney Jay Sekulow weighed in on the matter.

According to reporters who attended the briefing, Spicer insisted that the meeting had only been about Magnitsky Act sanctions against Russia, which prompted President Vladimir Putin to halt all Russian adoptions for parents in the U.S.

While on ABC News' This Week, when asked if the President would pardon "key figures" in the Russian Federation investigation, Sekulow said he hasn't discussed the issue with Trump, and that if he had, it would be protected under attorney-client privilege.

Akhmetshin also told Yahoo's Michael Isikoff on Friday that "no one asked us for ID's" when he and Veselnitskaya walked into Trump Tower.

"The question we have is: Did they somehow get information from some of the Trump campaign efforts to target that interference?"

The high-profile lawyer and media figure also questioned why the Secret Service - which screens those allowed access to presidential candidates and their associates - let through the two Russian nationals and their interpreter. Mark Warner, D-Va., said on "Meet The Press".

The top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee called for more investigation into the digital activities of Donald Trump's campaign, over concerns about Russian-directed misinformation efforts to influence the presidential election.

Separately, the campaign also paid more than $538,000 to Jones Day, the law firm that represented Trump's campaign during the election.
