Trump's Approval Rating Keeps Sinking

Hillary Clinton concedes defeat to Donald Trump on the night of last November's US presidential election

Indeed, Trump was unlikely to take news of the poll well, as his approval rating in the survey is unusually low, with only Gerald Ford's six-month rating in 1975 coming close, when he saw a 39% approval rating at a similar stage in his tenure, ABC News reported.

According to the poll released yesterday, Mr Trump's disapproval rating has risen five points to 58 percent.

In terms of negotiating on the United States' behalf, 66% are less trusting of Trump working with world leaders, and the same percentage was less trusting of Trump dealing with Russia President Vladimir Putin. An Iowa news director emailed CNN's Brian Stelter last week and said conservatives in his state were "extremely angry" at the press because they think the legacy media are using Russian Federation stories to "oust" Trump.

Participants were split - 43%-41% - on Trump's handling of the economy. President Trump has long contended polling results do not accurately reflect the voting results and the potential inclusion of illegals in polling would sway results against him, since he is working to fight illegal immigration.

Needless to say the poll was highly partisan, with 90% of Republicans asked approving of his performance compared to 5% of Democrats.

Two-thirds of Americans do not believe the President is capable of negotiating and interacting with other world leaders on the worldwide stage, most particularly with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Mr Trump attacked the poll on Twitter, saying on the one hand that "almost 40% [approval] is not bad at this time", before discrediting the poll as "just about the most inaccurate poll around election time!".

Meanwhile, 55 percent say Trump is not making significant progress toward his goals. Only 24% of those polled prefer a Republican health care plan (though exactly what that is has remained a moving target), while 50% prefer the current health care law.

Last week, Trump Jr. admitted that he took the June 9, 2016 meeting in Trump Tower after being promised dirt on Hillary Clinton - dirt which he was told originated with the Russian government. Sixty-three percent of the poll's respondents said that Donald Trump Jr's recently-revealed campaign meeting with a Russian lawyer was inappropriate, and 60% believed that Russia worked to influence the campaign's outcome.

The Post-ABC poll was conducted July 10-13 among a random national sample of 1,001 adults reached on cellular and landline phones.
