Walmart Removes Item From Website After N-Word Used In Description

The firm has said sorry for using the word

Kwani Lunis, a sports journalist, tweeted a picture of how the description appeared on the website, asking: "Hey Walmart what are you doing?"

The item, a wig cap, was being sold by a third party seller on Walmart's online marketplace. "The product has been removed and we're investigating the seller to determine how this could have happened". Although the product has been removed from the site, unfortunately screenshots live forever.

The N-word is used to describe the color in the product's description.

"A lot of sellers all over the internet are using my brand name to try and sell their products to my client base", she said via email. The URL wasn't changed, either which made the whole situation worse. By early Monday afternoon, the reference to the N-word had disappeared and a note informed shoppers that the product was on longer available. Walmart declined to identify the vendor that was selling it.

Here's one more piece of the puzzle.

The third-party company Jagazi also apologized on their website in the following statement. The U.K. company posted a statement on their website Monday claiming that someone else used the name to list the item.

According to a report by CNN Money, "The cap was described as manufactured by Jagazi Naturals in the United Kingdom, but that company's owner said the product is a counterfeit version of hers and was sold by an unauthorized seller". This isn't the first time Wal-Mart has had to pull an offensive or controversial product from its virtual shelves.

"We're very sorry for all the distress this has caused". We are feeling the pain here as well.
