Bolt, Gatlin to get last duel in men's 4x100m relay

Athletics- World Athletics Championships – men’s 5000 meters final – London Stadium London Britain

One final time, Usain Bolt peered down the last 50 meters of his lane and saw sprinter upon sprinter running footsteps ahead of him.

The USA should be rivals, though in Rio past year they were disqualified after Gatlin received the baton outside the first change-over zone. Reese won the Olympic gold medal in the same stadium five years ago.

Besides a false start disqualification at the 2011 World Championships in the 100m and a second-place finish in the 4 x 100m relay at the World Relay Championships in 2015, Bolt was all gold everything since he burst onto the scene in Beijing.

Jamaica set the sprint relay world record of 36.84 seconds at the 2012 Olympics at the London Stadium. Later, he bowed down to the man he finally defeated.

But the irrepressible prevalence of PEDs (in all sports) is such that I think they should be legalized. The Americans beat Britain and Japan, both of which also qualified. Because I fear he'll just end up like a junkie chasing the dragon ... Bolt is not the one that was crushing everything in its path with chronos from elsewhere, but this outcome was finally like a relief to an athlete who has dedicated his life to his sport from a very young age.

This year, however, he only got bronze in the 100 behind Gatlin. No regrets, I came out and did my best; win lose or draw.

Bolt's swan song was the World Championships 2017. It was the first global men's 100 or 200m final since 2003 not to feature a USA or Jamaican medalist.

Bolt still has the 4x100 relay next weekend. Indeed, his qualification for the final of the 100m race was considered as enough milestone for him. "It doesn't change anything for me", Bolt said. We have seen wonderful performances by athletes in uncharted or largely uncharted waters. Of the 30 fastest men's 100m sprint times ever, only nine have been run by an athlete who has not been banned for doping.

His first heat, on Friday night, was ugly. The race starts at 20:20 on Saturday.

"I'm not eulogistic that someone who has served two bans has walked off with one of our glittering prizes", said the 60-year-old. "I've done all I can for the sport and myself".

He was the second-slowest starter in the eight-man field.

Physio Anthony Geoghegan has been working at the World Athletics Championships the past week and managed to get a snap of Usain Bolt with a jersey from his new favourite county.

While that chase was unfolding, Gatlin, out in Lane 8, was coming from behind.

Jamaican legend Usain Bolt will return to action at the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London on Saturday for his final major championship appearance. It was Gatlin in 2004.

"So to put a narrative out that it's just Justin Gatlin and he's the bad guy, it's really not fair". "I'll call it lessons, lessons, lessons".

Last Sunday morning at my church I met with a few friends and we spoke about that race.

Incidentally, the look of anguish on Bolt's face - when it struck him that he did not win - rivals that look in Edvard Munch's most famous painting. He called the evening and the crowd "beautiful" - even if that medal he earned might not seem as pretty as the rest.
