Bryce Harper suffers bone bruise in knee

Washington Nationals' Pedro Severino right douses Howie Kendrick after the second baseball game of a doubleheader against the San Francisco Giants Sunday Aug. 13 2017 in Washington. Kendrick hit a walkoff grand slam in the 11th inning. The Nati

Harper suffered a bone bruise injury in his knee during the play in Saturday's game.

But they're just 5-9 in the playoffs and still haven't won a postseason series since the 1981 National League Division Series, when they were the Montreal Expos (the only postseason series win in franchise history). The Nationals are 69-45 and the Giants are 46-71, including 0-4 this year against Washington.

Joe Panik had three hits, including a two-run single in a three-run second that also included Gorkys Hernandez's RBI single.

Despite the horrific accident, Harper did manage to walk around the club house following the game. It's insane but it's definitely great to see him up in spirit and walking around and know that he won't be significantly out for a period of time or just hurt period.

Harper lunged toward first base and appeared to slide on the bag, hyperextending his left leg.

Harper had to be carried off after not being able to put any weight on the leg. This time, he was scheduled to start Friday, but the game was rained out and Stratton was bumped two days so Jeff Samardzija could pitch Saturday on normal rest.

Based on examinations and results of an MRI, the team said it's possible Harper will play again this season, which prompted a sigh of relief throughout the clubhouse, front office and fan base. Taking over as the Nationals' every day center fielder from April 29-July 6, Taylor hit.295, posted a.339 on-base percentage, and slugged.550.

"He was in obvious pain, and he was praying and I was praying, too".

Harper is now one of the leaders in the NL MVP race and is hitting.326 with 29 home runs and 87 RBI. That's what we usually do when things are in a bad way.

"I'm asking for prayers that it's not serious", Baker said. This season, with the Giants off in a ditch, Baker is set to pass him once more.

Chris Stratton is pitching Sunday's opener, Matt Moore the nightccap.

Severino, 24, returns to the Nationals for his second Major League assignment of the season.

Rizzo, who spoke to the media, said Harper will be placed on the disabled list.
