Charlottesville car crash suspect ID’d as 20-year-old Ohio man

The alleged driver of the vehicle that plowed into a group of counterprotesters in Charlottesville has been booked on suspicion of second-degree murder.

He is in custody at Charlottesville County Regional Jail.

The 32-year-old female was crossing the road when she was struck by the suspect driver.

Videos on social media from the scene show a silver auto traveling at a high rate of speed and rear-ending a stopped vehicle on Water and Fourth Streets in Downtown Charlottesville, pushing two cars into a large crowd of protesters. The Charger than threw it into reverse, to escape the scene.

Police said only that the crash is under investigation and have not commented on specific aspects of the crash. There were 15 other reported injuries at the rally unrelated to the crash.
