Facebook steps up video ambitions with Watch

Susan Wojcicki and Mark Zuckerberg

Watchlist feature of the tab will help users to easily follow their favorite shows.

The Watch tab puts a lot of sections around videos, where you'll find categories like "Most Talked About", "What's Making People Laugh", and "What Friends Are Watching".

The clip, which features the most impressive user-submitted clips of 2017 so far, was posted on July 28 and has already amassed a whopping 351 million views on Facebook - and roughly 1 million views on YouTube. According to the video shared by Facebook, when the user taps on the video tab, they will be taken to page with videos and different categories.

To help users keep a tap on the shows they follow, there's also a Watchlist so users don't miss out any episodes.

The new platform offers an opportunity for social interactions via the Facebook community of some two billion users.

In an apparent bid to take on Google-owned YouTube, Facebook has rolled out "Watch" - a redesigned video platform for creators and publishers. So when you watch a show, you can see comments and connect with friends and other viewers while watching, or participate in a dedicated Facebook Group for the show. On the platform, they can find an audience, build communities, and monetise their work. Gabby Bernstein, a New York Times bestselling author, motivational speaker, and life coach, uses a combination of recorded and live episodes to connect with her fans and answer questions in real time.

Live events that bring communities together.

The service will also include a weekly Major League Baseball game. A range of shows can shine on Watch - reality, comedy, even live sports, and more. Also, the company announced that it would be looking to fund some of these first shows "to help seed the ecosystem". For example, Returning the Favor is a series hosted by Mike Rowe where he finds people doing something extraordinary for their community, tells the world about it, and in turn does something extraordinary for them.

Watch is also a place for creators and publishers though.

Initially, Watch will be available to a limited group of Facebook users in the United States and more widely to US users in the coming weeks, Facebook, said. Similarly, it'll be opening up Shows to a limited group of creators with a plan to roll out to all soon.
