Fighters and Indian soldiers killed in Kashmir clash

Earlier, two Indian soldiers were killed and several others injured in an attack on the forces' personnel, who were part of the operation in Awneera area of Shopian district.

At least three Kashmiri youth were martyred in Shopian district and two Indian soldiers were killed in a latest bloodshed in the disputed Himalayan territory.

Two militants are still holed up in the area, The Times of India reported.

According to ANI, three militants have been killed in the gunbattle.

Itoo was one of the longest surviving militants and was considered as the Hizb's top commander in south Kashmir, police sources said. In the encounter, three men, including an officer, were injured.

Indian security forces have launched a massive offensive against militants, killing 135 of them this year.

The soldier has been identified as Nb Sub Jagram Singh Tomar, who got grievously injured during the exchange of fire and succumbed to his injuries.

The militants fired at the Army building in Kalaroos area during the night, a police official said. He had vanished from the militancy scene and was believed to be dead with the Hurriyat offering his in-absentia funeral prayers past year. Additional security forces were rushed to the area and entire area was sealed to prevent militants to escape from the cordoned off area.

Seven civilians had sustained pellet injuries on Saturday when protesters engaged the security forces in clashes to break the cordon around the site of the gunfight.
