Giancarlo Stanton Sets Marlins Record With 43rd Home Run of Season

Marcell Ozuna is also having a career year in 2017 hitting behind Stanton and giving opposing pitchers fits

Giancarlo Stanton knocked in three runs to break the franchise record for home runs leading the Miami Marlins to an 8-3 Major League Baseball victory over the San Francisco Giants on Monday.

Back on July 4th the Marlins completed their 82nd game and Stanton had 21 home runs on the season.

Stanton has homered in four straight games and has nine dingers this month.

No player has hit 60 or more home runs since 2001 when Bonds set the major-league record with 73 and Sosa hit 64. He protected a two-run lead in the fifth, when he came on with runners at second and third and none out, and escaped without allowing a run. Tyler Olson, Bryan Shaw and Joe Smith combined for 2 1/3 scoreless innings to close out the win. Gary Sanchez added insurance in the inning with a homer into the right-field seats.

"I think he likes hitting homers", Mattingly said with a chuckle. He struck out two, walked none and hit two batters.

Curtis Granderson and Yoenis Cespedes homered for the Mets.

Josh Donaldson hit a two-run homer, Nick Tepesch pitched into the seventh inning for his first win in almost three years, and Toronto defeated Tampa Bay.

Tepesch (1-2) last won in the majors on September 16, 2014, when he was with Texas. He has a 5.06 ERA in 48 road innings pitched while allowing six home runs.

Can the Marlins keep having fun and ride the wave into the postseason? We’ll just have to wait and see

Cory Spangenberg had a home run among his three hits as the San Diego Padres beat the Philadelphia Phillies.

In Stanton fashion, the mark was eclipsed succinctly, as he has been scorching hot over the past 11 games.

Pretty good? The stance often leads to a home run trot accompanied by a grin. Roberto Osuna threw a ideal 1 1/3 innings for his 30th save of the season.

Delino DeShields' safety squeeze brought in Rougned Odor with the go-ahead run in the second inning.

He was roughed up last week against the Nationals, giving up a season-high 11 hits and 5 runs.

On Tuesday, Straily (7-8, 3.74 ERA) will be countered by Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner, a four-time All-Star and a three-time World Series champion who is having an uncharacteristically disappointing season, in part due to injury. Mazara also had three hits.

The Marlins (57-60) have won four games in a row, tying their season best.

Mets dealing veteran Neil Walker to the Brewers
In his last two games, Walker is batting.667 (6 for 9 with one home run, two RBI, five runs and a walk) over his last two games. Against a very hot Nola, the Mets have an implied total of 3.92, which isn't promising for Reyes or Mets players as a whole.
