Global cricket returns to Pakistan

The Pakistan Super League has been Sethi’s biggest success so far

A 15-member World XI squad will take part in a 7-day long camp in Dubai before heading to Lahore for the series.

The chairman said that all the teams would be provided with presidential-level security.

"The ICC is helping us in our endeavours to revive worldwide cricket in Pakistan".

Talking on the latest development, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi was quoted to be saying to The Dawn, "It's a step by the ICC for the revival of worldwide cricket in Pakistan".

Sethi made it clear that while he was thankful to the chairman of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) for giving a very positive message for Pakistan cricket, chairman of the PCB last week, insisted his main priority was to get worldwide teams to visit Pakistan again and remove their misgivings about security in the country. All the expenses of the tour will be borne by the PCB. If they go off without incident, Sethi said that it will pave the way for more countries to tour.

The West Indies cricket team will be touring Pakistan for a three-match T20 series in late November this year.

With the Sri Lanka matches set to be staged in Pakistan before the West Indies series, it will be the first time global cricket has been staged in the country since a low-key limited-overs series was played against Zimbabwe, amidst a heavy security presence, back in May 2015. "Those who are coming let them come".

Ever since the infamous terrorist attack on the touring Sri Lankan bus back in 2009, global cricket in the country is on a long-stretched hiatus. However, the tour is subject to security clearance.

However, low-ranked sides, namely Afghanistan and Zimbabwe, had toured the country for a limited-over series.

The statement further added that the tour will be subject to the ICC World XI team's visit to Pakistan and affirmation of manageable security by the team appointed by the ICC. Since then, however, the PCB has hosted the 2017 PSL final - which featured a contingent of overseas players including former West Indies captain Darren Sammy - in Lahore on March 5 without major incident.
