Heathrow Airport records best ever month in July

The London airport welcomed 7.53m passengers last month

Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow Airport, said: "July is traditionally our busiest period of the year as passengers head off on their summer holidays, but to record our busiest ever month in 51 years of operation is a significant achievement". Breaking all previous monthly records, Heathrow welcomed 7.53 million passengers in July (+1.2% on last July) - averaging 243,000 passengers or the equivalent of the population of Plymouth every day.

Heathrow said cargo through the airport climbed at the fastest rate ever recorded at Britain's largest port, up 15 percent to 143,000 tonnes in July. United Kingdom traffic rose by nearly +5% on the back of recently launched Flybe flights to Scotland.

Last month, the airport said it was making solid progress as it works with airlines to meet the government's challenge of delivering expansion with charges close to current levels.

The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has published a report that assesses the top 30 UK airports on the quality of assistance they provide to passengers with a disability.

The airport said Middle Eastern destinations in particular were popular for travellers, as fuller aircraft led to a seven per cent rise in passengers to the area, while United Kingdom destinations also posted five per cent passenger growth after Flybe launched flights from Heathrow to Scotland earlier this year.

Five attempts to stop PDP convention failed - Makarfi
In a related development, Makarfi has assured members of the party that the issues relating to the South-west zone of the party have been resolved.

The report also shows that the number of air passengers with a disability requesting extra help continues to grow significantly, reaching over three million journeys in 2016 - a rise of over 66% since 2010.

"However, East Midlands, Exeter, Heathrow and Manchester have fallen short of our expectations and we have secured commitments from them to make improvements".

Disabled passengers arriving at Heathrow Airport are being forced to wait up to two hours for assistance disembarking aircraft, the aviation regulator has said.

Other airports in the wider region included Humberside which rated as "Very Good" and Leeds Bradford "Good" while East Midlands and Manchester were ranked as "Poor".

Inverness, whose staff attend "numerous local access panels" also achieved a "very good" ranking, as did Glasgow, which the CAA said "provided a high quality assistance service throughout the year".
