Janta Dal (United) To Decide On Joining NDA On August 19

Assam More than 3.5 lakh people affected in fresh wave of floods

With the JD (U) bracing up to the prospects of joining the NDA government at the Centre, the Cabinet expansion and reshuffle appear on the cards in immediate future.

Sharad Yadav was not in favour of Nitish Kumar's decision to form an alliance with BJP to form the government in Bihar.

Several JD (U) leaders, including Yadav, were miffed with Kumar's "unilateral" decision.

The crisis in Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) came to a boil on Saturday as it removed senior leader Sharad Yadav as head of its parliamentary party in the Rajya Sabha. Yadav has been replaced with Bihar Chief Minister and party chief Nitish Kumar's close aide RCP Sinha.

Regarding the claim of the supporters of Mr Yadav that various state units of the party were against the alliance with the BJP in Bihar, he said the JD (U) was a recognised political party only in the eastern state. He made it clear that the JD (U) has already chose to align with the BJP. As far as party is concerned, it has already taken its decision.

In New Delhi, JD-U rebel MP Ali Anwar Ansari, who was suspended from the parliamentary party for taking part in a meeting of opposition parties, said the Sharad Yadav-led faction is the "real JD-U" and there was no question of leaving the party.

Speaking to ANI, MP Vashistha Narayan Singh said, "This was important and was done due to Sharad Yadav's anti-party activities".

He added that this was not personal fight against Nitish Kumar but a fight of principles and to save democracy and brotherhood. The leaders standing with Nitish are threatening the other leaders who support me. We were ready to go there and put forth our views, but Nitish seems to be afraid of what we will say.

Nitish is expected to formally announce his decision to join the NDA at the party's national executive meeting in Patna on August 19.
