Sarahah app lets you send and receive anonymous messages

Here are answers to 5 questions that you might be having about the Sarahah application

You can then, share your "Sarahah" profile on any of the social media platform so that you can inform your friends that you are on the messaging app. "Sent" shows all the messages you have been sending on the app. "Search" tab lets you search for people to send them anonymous messages.

Sarahah helps you in discovering your strength and areas for improvement by receiving honest feedback from your employees and your friends in a private manner.

Sarahah has become so popular that the app was on top of Apple App Store in over 30 countries in July, gaining 2.5 million users in Egypt, 1.7 million in Tunisia, and 1.2 million in Saudi Arabia, since its launch in February.

Go to the message box on Sarahah app which prompts the user to "leave a constructive message" followed by a smiling emoji. But do you really think people around us are so innocuous that they would let go of a golden opportunity of being critical?

It was designed as a self-development app, but with the increasing numbers of cases of cyber-stalking and trolling it remains to be seen if this app, which has been making waves in the last few days in India, is the best thing for iOS and Android users. In a nut shell, you can say anything to anyone, even something embarrassing, without the awkwardness that would have ensued if the message was conveyed in person. So what is this viral messaging app all about?

It is free to download and like most social media apps asks users to create a profile with a username, email ID and a password to keep communications secure. People are sharing the anonymous confessions they received on Sarahah, and they're posting them on Twitter. Anyone can send a review or a thing one wanted to say to anyone without being anxious about consequences. Sarahah keeps the identity of the senders hidden unless they want to reveal it.

On the receivers app, all the incoming messages show up in an inbox, and you can flag messages, delete them, reply, or favourite them to find them easily later. For those who are logged in, there is an option to tag themselves when they leave a message, but the default setting is set to anonymous. However, if not used properly, this app can definitely prove risky. You can report a message, block user but what happens to those who send abusive messages is unclear. Next up, there's an "Explore" tab which isn't live yet.

And this has been the USP of the Sarahah app. Unfortunately, you won't be able to reply so you will be at the mercy of the person of the sender.

Sarahah has the right to use the information input by users with agreement to the privacy policy.
