Sir Mo Farah claims silver in 5000 metres at world athletics championships

Edris crashes Farah party with 5,000m gold

The move comes even as homeboy Mo Farah strives to win his 11th title at the worlds against strong challengers that include Ethiopia's 2013 world youth 3000m champion Yomif Kejelcha.

In what was his last major track appearance before retirement later this month, the 34-year-old finished with a time of 13 minutes 33.22 seconds - almost one second behind gold-winner Muktar Edris of Ethiopia.

The British record holder equalled her season's best with a 1.95 metre effort but couldn't get over 1.97m, which would have been just a centimetre under her personal best from last year's Rio Olympics.

Farah did a little boxer's routine as he took to the line psyching himself up for another bruising battle like the 10,000m where he was spiked and nearly elbowed off the track.

Now aged 34, old though certainly not ancient, Farah had only lost one of his 23 races at 5,000m since moving to Alberto Salazar, still under investigation by the US Anti-Doping Agency into his methods of training at the Nike Oregon Project.

Farah was less than a second back in 13:33.22, the Kenyan-born America Paul Chelimo winning bronze in 13:33.30.

The distance runner, Mo Farah also runs in his last track race the 5,000 metres final. They (the Ethiopians) run as a team.

Coe has revealed that he is already in talks with Bolt about promoting the sport and wants the next generation of athletes to engage with the public like the Jamaican showman. "I gave it all, I didn't have a single bit left at the end". If you look at the youth that's surfaced in these championships, it's the youngest cohort of medalists and winners. It's not an excuse, but it took a lot more out of me than I realised.

"I want athletes with opinions, I want them with views".

Elsewhere, Katarina Johnson-Thompson certainly salvaged some pride - but fell just short of her medal ambition with a fifth place in the women's high jump final. "I feel happy that I ran with Mo Farah".
