Trump ends advisory councils after CEO exodus

Trump’s Attacks Could Leave Him Friendless if Impeachment Comes

Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci seemingly took a swipe at President Trump on Wednesday over Trump's response to the violence in Charlottesville last weekend.

Remarkably, Bannon is gleefully discussing the political dividends that (he believes) Trump will reap from the fraught aftermath of racial violence that led to the burial of a young woman who was murdered for showing up to protest racism and white supremacy.

But members of Trump's administration, some of whom privately expressed exasperation over his self-inflicted crisis, remained loyal in public.

Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) ripped into President Trump Thursday for his response to violence at a white supremacist rally in Virginia, joining a host of other GOP lawmakers who have criticized the president for his remarks. Schwarzman organized a call on Wednesday for member executives to voice concerns after Trump's comments, and an overwhelming majority backed disbanding the council, two sources said.

He acknowledged there were "some very bad people" among the statue protesters, but added: "You also had people that were very fine people, on both sides".

During this period, several corporate bosses resigned from Trump's American Manufacturing Council.

In Santiago, Chile, outside the building where Vice President Mike Pence gave a speech, there was a show of solidarity with Charlottesville. He then did so, but at a press conference on Tuesday reverted to his original stance that both sides were to blame for the violence that unfolded.

Tuesday's Trump event was supposed to be about plans for improving our infrastructure, about building America back up. Merck CEO Kenneth Frazier, who started the mass exodus by resigning from the manufacturing council Monday, said he felt "a responsibility to take a stand against intolerance and racism" because Trump did not.

Two of Trump's top economic policy advisers are Jewish: Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and National Economic Council adviser Gary Cohn.

Despite the growing criticism, a source told CNN that the President was "without regrets" after yesterday's fiery press conference. Trump showed a fondness for loudly calling out companies on Twitter, but most absorbed the punches and promised to hire more people in the US while touting plans to build more factories and other facilities. The other opposes racism and bigotry.

The steady stream of resignations culminated in a Wednesday morning conference call with members of the Strategy & Policy Forum at which members made a decision to disband the group, according to a report in the New York Times. "And for me in particular, I think in learning history, that we know that staying silent on these issues is simply not acceptable".
