Trump to Guam: 'Don't worry about a thing'

President Trump spoke with the governor of Guam on Friday after North Korea threatened earlier this week to launch missiles toward the island by mid-August.

"Obviously, I am concern and there are lot of people in Guam and the Northern Mariana [Islands] that are concern because basically Kim Jong-Un is saying, 'hey we are going to bomb you, ' and he is pointing the finger at the territory of Guam", he said.

"We have so much to be proud of in Guam's number one industry", Eddie Baza Calvo, the governor of Guam, said in a press release on Thursday.

"Don't worry about a thing", Mr Trump responded.

The document, called "In Case of Emergency - Preparing for Imminent Missile Threat" was released by the Homeland Security Department and included several ominous warnings: "Do not look at the flash or fireball - It can blind you".

North Korea has announced plans to fire missiles into the sea near the island, a United States territory and key military base in the Western Pacific.

Calvo has said North Korea's warning of a possible missile strike on Guam was not a threat, but said the island should be prepared. "All over the world they are talking about Guam, and they are talking about you". "They should have had me eight years ago..."

"Governor, I just want to let you know we're with you 1,000 percent", Mr Trump told Mr Calvo. "Frankly, you could've said that for the last three presidents".

"Eddie, I have to tell you, you've become extremely famous", said the president, who telephoned from Bedminster, New Jersey, where's he on a working vacation.

The statement said that in the event of a strike, people "should 'take cover, take shelter immediately, not look towards what could be the blast area in fears of being blinded, '" Almaguer said. "Do not use conditioner in your hair because it will bind radioactive material to your hair".

North Korea has announced a detailed plan to launch a salvo of ballistic missiles into the seas around the US Pacific territory of Guam, a major military hub and home to US bombers.
