Trump warns North Korea US is 'locked and loaded'

CIA chief says'nothing imminent

"The Cubans are there; the Russians are there, the Iranians, Hezbollah are there", he said on "Fox News Sunday".

"The reaction in North Korea that we are intending to get is an is an understanding that America is no longer going to have the strategic patience that it's had that has permitted him to continue to develop his weapons program", Pompeo said.

Senior US national security officials have said a military confrontation with North Korea is not imminent, but they cautioned that the possibility of war is greater than it was a decade ago.

North Korea is thought to have developed a miniaturized warhead, and a more advanced intercontinental ballistic missile, that would enhance its ability to deliver a nuclear payload against the U.S.

BEDMINSTER, N.J./BEIJING - President Donald Trump issued a new threat to North Korea on Friday, saying what he called US military solutions were "locked and loaded" as Pyongyang accused him of driving the Korean peninsula to the brink of nuclear war.

Mr Trump said the USA military was "locked and loaded", while Pyongyang has accused him of "driving" the Korean peninsula to the "brink of a nuclear war".

"There's no intelligence indicating we're on the cusp of a nuclear war", Pompeo said.

Mr Pompeo said "there's nothing imminent today", in response to a question about how anxious people should be over the escalating tensions.

North Korea, meanwhile, has threatened to launch a rocket at the waters near the USA territory of Guam some 21,000 miles away. "But we're taking all possible actions short of military action to resolve this very grave threat to the United States and the world", the lieutenant general said, citing diplomatic efforts, increased sanctions and increased pressure.

"Let's see what he does with Guam", Trump told reporters, referring to North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.

USA financial markets took the rhetorical escalation in stride on Friday even as European and Asian markets weakened in a catch-up reaction to Thursday's drop.

"He's pretty isolated today for the first time", he said.

North Korea warned foreign diplomats to leave Pyongyang in 2013 when it suspended work at a joint inter-Korean industrial park and threatened missile strikes on U.S. Pacific bases, notably in Guam and Hawaii.

"North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States", the president declared before the White House press pool Tuesday. In response, North Korea announced a detailed plan to fire ballistic missiles towards Guam, a US territory in the Pacific.

In response, Mr Trump said North Korea should expect "big, big trouble" if anything happened to Guam.
