US man arrested for killing mother, sister, another woman with hammer

Hempstead Triple Murder Under Investigation

Nassau, New York police say 34-year-old Bobby Vanderhall beat his mother Lynn, 29-year-old sister Melissa, and Melissa's best friend, Janel Simpson to death with a hammer.

His younger sister Melissa, 28, and two friends heard the fatal beating, the paper reported. "He obtained a large hammer that's called a framing hammer", a police spokesperson said. The fourth female victim - who was also struck with the hammer - was transported to a local hospital where she is listed in stable condition.

"When he came here last night and it looked like the doors were secured, he became enraged", said Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick, commanding officer of the Homicide Squad.

The victims were all women, suffered blunt force trauma and authorities are searching for a person of interest, police told reporters.

Denis Simpson said his daughter, Janel (pictured, March 2016), had worked late as a secretary at Northwell Health and then went to her friend's house to hang out.

Bobby Vanderhall stayed in the house for a short time before fleeing, and was apprehended within a two-mile radius of the scene sleeping in a vehicle, said Nassau County Det. The friends had taken a trip to attend Carnival in Trinidad and were planning to visit Cuba in the fall.

The police described Bobby as more than six feet tall and at weighing least 230 pounds.

He is due to be arraigned on charges of murder and attempted murder.

'These girls don't give problems, these girls just have fun, ' Simpson said. He was arrested after the police found him asleep in a vehicle, two miles from the house. He is scheduled for arraignment on Sunday and is now being kept in Mineola in Nassau County.
