Vikas Barala, friend sent to judicial custody till Aug 25

Stalking case

The Chandigarh district court on Saturday sent the main accused in the stalking case, Vikas Barala and his friend Ashish Kumar to judicial custody till August 25, reported the Hindustan Times.

On Thursday, defence counsel Surya Prakash Garg had pleaded "not guilty" for the accused. Vikas is the son of Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Haryana unit President Subhash Barala. However, the court considered the gravity of the case and ordered two day police custody for the accused.

There was a massive outrage on streets and in the Parliament regarding the incident.

The duo had been earlier remanded in police custody for two days till August 12.

August 10 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday urged the Opposition not to politicise the Chandigarh stalking case and asserted that the law will take its course in the case.

Meanwhile, investigators are still clueless about the whereabouts of the auto and the persons accused, police said on Friday. Both the accused were re-arrested on Wednesday as they were charged with Sections 365 and 511 for attempt to abduct of the IPC in the already registered FIR against them for allegedly stalking and harassing the woman.

The notice was issued to both the accused, under 160 Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and the case was filed against Barala under Section 354D (stalking), 341 (wrongful restraint), 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 185 MV Act (rash driving).

However, both were released from the jail after they got bail in the case. He assured action against his son.
