Wenger admits uncertainty over future affected Arsenal

Alexis Sanchez Arsene Wenger

Substitute Oliver Giroud put the final touches on an enthralling comeback win for Arsenal as they beat Leicester City 4-3 on the opening evening of the new Premier League season.

The Gunners trailed 3-2 with seven minutes to go before Aaron Ramsey and Giroud swung the game back in the home side's favour at a euphoric Emirates Stadium.

England striker Jamie Vardy, who was heavily linked with Arsenal 12 months ago, scored a brace either side of a Danny Welbeck leveller that showed Arsenal's rearguard to be equally awful from open play and set-piece situations.

Leicester took the lead again when Vardy headed in Riyad Mahrez's corner before Arsene Wenger made an inspired double substitution which sparked Arsenal's comeback.

However, replays suggested that Ozil had used his arm in the build-up to Ramsey's strike. "[We had] 70 percent possession, 27 shots on goal, Leicester had three shots on target and scored three so that shows you how efficient they are".

"Obviously I knew that I was going to have a chance so we tried to push", he said.

"He doesn't want to leave and I'm happy he wants to stay".

The 26-year-old striker, who signed for a club-record €53 million in July, had previously spent his entire career with Lyon, his hometown club.

He stretched Nacho Monreal and Rob Holding at every opportunity, ghosting past both players to score Leicester's second from Marc Albrighton's sumptuous left wing cross after five minutes.

"I can not go into the game with too many uncertainties".

The compilers of calendar of the Premier League never has wished, and sent him to open the season, Arsenal and Leicester.

In the build-up to Friday's game Wenger repeatedly stressed the importance of beginning with a positive result against Leicester - and the Gunners appeared to have listened to their manager as they made the dream start.

And so they did, within two minutes.

Why, they must wonder, are Arsenal such notoriously slow starters in the Premier League.

The joy did not last long, however.

After crowning a good pre-season with a win over London rival Chelsea in last week's Community Shield, the Gunners should have been confident going into Friday's contest at the Emirates, reports Efe.
