Aston Martin Could Be Red Bull's Title Sponsor In 2018

Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo Red Bull F1 drivers

The company upcoming Valkyrie hypercar, unveiled a year ago as the AM-RB 001 concept, was created in collaboration with Red Bull and designed by Adrian Newey, the team's chief technical officer.

"We like the sport and we are a company that aspires to be as valuable as Ferrari".

Aston Martin, a 104-year-old firm whose road cars have become closely associated with fictional British secret agent James Bond, last competed in Formula One in 1960.

Furthermore, Aston Martin branding has appeared on Red Bull cars and uniforms since 2016, and the company has attended Formula One meetings about the 2021 regulations alongside Lamborghini and Porsche.

"If we can get more theatre back into the sport, and if we can reduce the cost of the engine, then Aston might be interested in producing an independent engine".

But Red Bull, who won four straight drivers' and constructors' titles at the turn of the decade, did find a purple patch of form around the Singapore track reminiscent of their glory years.

"We want to be more involved in the sport", he told the pair as part of the Channel 4 race broadcast.

When asked if Aston might build an engine for Red Bull, Horner answered: "They can't do that now, so it would have to be for 2021". These engines will be efficient and will have a lower development cost which might lure Aston Martin into Formula1.

Again, Palmer confirmed: "We'd like to be involved a little more next season and then join the dots".

The British-based team now use Renault engines, branded Tag Heuer. The Japanese engine supplier recently cut a deal to supply engines for Red Bull's junior squad, Toro Rosso, instead of McLaren, from next year.

"We are studying 2021 engine regulation changes and that might provoke us to supply an independent F1 engine if the conditions are appropriate", said Andy Palmer, Aston Martin's CEO, in an interview given to Autoexpress.

This leaves the Red Bull squad in the lurch for 2019/2020 without a locked in engine deal, before either Aston or Porsche may enter the fray from 2021.
