Cowboy Bebop Director Is Releasing An Anime Blade Runner Film

Johnnie Walker Black Label The Director's Cut

"I was truly inspired by Villeneuve's artistic vision for Blade Runner 2049 and how it could come to life in this new blend". Well, look no further, because Shinichiro Watanabe (of Cowboy Bebop fame) has made a short animated film filling in the gaps, but more importantly, the music is pure, unadulterated, fuego, scored by the one and only Flying Lotus.

"Blade Runner: Black Out 2022", directed by Shinichirô Watanabe, best known for the 1998 Cowboy Bebop anime series and his contributions to The Animatrix, takes place three years after Blade Runner.

Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve and the team behind the highly anticipated sequel have been coming up some unique ways to set up the story for the sequel. After the first film about the enigmatic antagonist of the film played by Jared Leto, this is the one dedicated to Dave Bautista, whose imposing stature will take on the role of the mysterious Sapper.

Cygames Pictures also released a really cool video showing samples of some of the artwork and previews of the animation for the film.

None of the characters are familiar faces, though that's to be expected. Check out the Blade Runner 2049 IMAX promo below, along with a special clip showing you the added picture value from IMAX!

We certainly have some mixed feelings around here about the upcoming Blade Runner sequel, Blade Runner 2049. He says in the sneak peek video that the film had a lasting effect on him and has greatly influenced his work over the years. "The new Blade Runner is an extension of the first movie a few decades later". The short is titled "Blade Runner Black Out 2022".
