Electric version of classic Jaguar 1968 E-type has just been unveiled

"Hello, my name is Sayer. I am the steering wheel of the future"

In the same week that it accelerated a commitment to reuse aluminium from end-of-life vehicles in new products, United Kingdom automotive manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced that from 2020 all new vehicle models will be electric.

Jaguar Land Rover has announced that, from 2020 onwards, every new auto it makes will come in both an all-electric and hybrid version.

It plans to offer a hybrid or electric version of every model (that means all Land Rovers, Range Rovers and Jaguars) but it's not the end for its internal combustion engines just yet - JLR says that the move is primarily to give customers a wider range of options.

The 220-kW electric drivetrain borrows some componentry from Jaguar's upcoming I-PACE electric SUV due out next year. No other reproduction or distribution is permitted without prior written consent.

For fans of Jaguar's design heritage will be happy to see the Jaguar E-type Zero based on the 1968 Series 1.5 Roadster.

Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed that all new vehicles it produces will feature some form of electrification from 2020.

Classic cars are often very lovely to look at, but living with them is a different story - 50-year old engines often don't mix very well with modern traffic.

This particular E-Type, built on an existing chassis we believe, is fitted with a cutting-edge electric powertrain in place of the original petrol engine.

The advantage that the I-Pace has entering the market as a pure electric vehicle is that it has been designed around the electric powertrain, rather than being constrained by the architecture of an older combustion engine design.

Chief of Jaguar Land Rover Classic Tim Hannig said the aim of the E-type Zero is to "future-proof classic auto ownership".

JAGUAR and Land Rover will fill their showrooms with electrons, announcing an aggressive push into hybrid and battery-fuelled vehicles. That's either fully electric, plug-in hybrid or "mild" hybrid.

To demonstrate how new technologies could change its portfolio, Jaguar is today showing off its electric credentials at an event called Jaguar Tech Fest, which is being held near Kings Cross Station in London.

Three. The Jaguar Future-Type is a concept the company believes is a viable concept for the year 2040.

The Government recently confirmed plans to ban the sale of new diesel and petrol cars in the United Kingdom from 2040 - with the aim of getting them off the roads altogether by 2050. The company is also expected to present a concept for a voice-activated, detachable steering wheel.

That new electric drivetrain all packaged very cleverly to resemble the original auto, with the electric motor and reduction gear just behind the battery pack where the gearbox would have gone.

Jaguar Land Rover chief executive Dr Ralf Speth said that from 2020 all new Jaguar Land Rover vehicles would use electrically assisted drivetrains.
