Ex-Liverpool star Jamie Carragher suggests Hodgson alternative for Crystal Palace

Frank de Boer's future as Crystal Palace boss is uncertain after a fourth defeat

Crystal Palace sacked new manager Frank de Boer four games into the Premier League season on Monday after the club suffered the worst start to an English top flight season for almost 100 years.

Whether it's a forwards step for the club is open to debate - Hodgson is now 70, with his last Premier League job dating back five years with West Brom.

The Mirror is reporting that former England national team manager, Roy Hodgson is set to take the reins of Crystal Palace.

The former Liverpool boss has been out of work since he quit his post as England manager following the humiliating defeat by Iceland at Euro 2016.

Most Bookmakers have now closed the market on Hodgson coming into Selhurst Park.

In what many were already considering a must-win game for De Boer, the Eagles failed to rise to the occasion, with the Clarets taking advantage of a sloppy pass from Lee Chung Yong.

His Burnley counterpart Sean Dyche said: "I don't think any manager wants sympathy, but I thought they were the better side and they deserved something from the game". "Hodgson himself is only 16/1 to make a quick exit!"

The feeling that Frank de Boer's days as Crystal Palace manager are numbered is one shared in the Netherlands.

It is 93 years since a top-flight club, Preston, last lost their first four games without scoring.

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has called for the club's staff and supporters to "stick together" as speculation surrounding Frank de Boer's position as manager continues to intensify. We know we are better than this.I'm defending everyone at the club who is working their backside off to turn this around.
