GLOBAL FAITHS: Rohingya, Muslims of Bengali, face ethnic cleansing

Centre to Supreme Court: Some Rohingya Muslims have links with Pak, Islamic State

Rohingya people have fled the country by the hundreds of thousands as the military has set fire to their villages and conducted mass killings and gang rapes. "They describe the perpetrators as mainly members of the military, with the police and Rakhine villagers also identified, in some cases", added the statement.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that a final decision on the fate of Rohingya refugees in India would be taken by the Supreme Court.

Since taking office in 2014, Modi's government has issued orders stating that no Hindu or member of another minority from Pakistan or Bangladesh would be considered an illegal immigrant even if they entered the country without valid documents on or before December 31, 2014.

Rohingyas are denied citizenship in the Buddhist-majority Myanmar and regarded as illegal immigrants, despite claiming roots that date back centuries.

Earlier today, Myanmar State Councillor Aung San Suu Kyi broke her silence on the Rohingya crisis in the country and said that the government does not fear scrutiny by the worldwide community, even as more than 4,00,000 Rohingya Muslims have fled from the northern Rakhine State.

It comes at a time when Western countries are stepping up pressure on Myanmar's government for violence against Rohingya Muslims in its northwestern Rakhine state.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh today said Rohingyas are not refugees who have applied for asylum in India but illegal immigrants who "will be deported".

Last week, monks at the Kendriya Shima Bihar temple organised a blood donation drive for the Rohingya refugees.

Known as the Kutupalong extension, the new site is next to Kutupalong camp, which houses Rohingya refugees who arrived over several decades.

A number of activists within and outside Myanmar who spoke with The Daily Beast said their posts about the violence were frequently taken down by Facebook.

Myanmar's presidential office spokesman Zaw Htay said that, out of 471 "Bengali" villages in three Rakhine townships, 176 were now completely empty while at least 34 more were partially abandoned.

Myanmar has accused the Rohingya of burning their own homes and villages - a claim the United Nations human rights chief criticized as a "complete denial of reality".

Haley said the meeting simply went "very well".

The report expressed particular concern for country's Rohingya population arguing their "stateless status and inability to receive aid and work legally increases their vulnerability to human trafficking".

He said he was banned for one month for that comment.

"It is a humanitarian catastrophe because they don't have enough food, shelter, medical support to survive with and are living in an unhygienic conditions", Ullah said.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Fillipo Grandi, will be in Bangladesh as of tomorrow to get a firsthand grasp of the scale of the crisis, meet refugees, and see UNHCR's continued ramping up of its response to support Bangladesh.

It is the Myanmar government's "responsibility to ensure that security returns to Rakhine", Grandi told The Associated Press at the Stockholm Security Conference in Sweden.

The Rakhine deny harassing their Muslim neighbors, but want them to leave, fearing they might collaborate with militants from the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), which carried out the August 25 attacks.
