In the Black sea sank a fishing boat with migrants

Thirty-eight migrants were rescued but search and rescue efforts are in progress

Twenty-one people drowned and up to 15 more were missing today after a fishing boat carrying migrants sank off Turkey's Black Sea coast, the coast guard said.

Search teams have managed to rescue 40 refugees and migrants after the boat sank at 5:03am local time (02:03GMT) around 64 nautical miles north of the village of Kefken, according to a statement. Some of rescued migrants were rushed to hospitals in Kocaeli for detailed medical examinations.

Earlier this month, Romania's coast guard rescued a group of 157 Iraqi and Iranian migrants, 56 of them children, from a boat drifting on the Black Sea.

Anadolu Agency says Turkey's coast guard is searching for an estimated 20 migrants who are missing following Friday's capsizing.

The boat ran into bad weather and rough water, AFP reported. The route has emerged since a controversial deal between Turkey and the European Union in March a year ago staunched the influx of boat migrants to Greece from Turkey's Aegean coast. Hundreds of thousands of migrants are trying to reach European countries using various routes, including via Italy, Greece, Turkey and the Balkan states.

Turkish coastguard intercepted 834 migrants off the Black Sea coast between August 13 and September 9 and detained 10 alleged people smugglers, Turkey's Daily Sabah newspaper said on its website.
