Juergen Klopp Berated over Liverpool being Knocked Out of Carabao Cup

Jurgen Klopp's side crashed out of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening, going down 2-0 at the King Power Stadium.

Shinji Okazaki scored Leicester's first after Liverpool could only half-clear a corner and Islam Slimani added the second following a throw-in, leaving Klopp lamenting familiar failings.

The reds were utterly dominant in the first half.

Klopp is now joint fifth favourite to get the boot, with a number of his rivals still ahead of him.

"I'm not sure if there is pressure on us", he says.

Over the past two seasons in the duels of these teams, the victory went exclusively to the home team.

Dominic Solanke then shot wide before Philippe Coutinho and Andrew Robertson went close with efforts from outside the box.

"He had an opportunity with the transfer window to strengthen the football team".

Jurgen Klopp's team, who headed into the worldwide break on the back of a commanding 4-0 triumph over Arsenal, have since failed to win a game in all competitions.

Danny Ings was sent on to try and grab an equaliser but Slimani put the game beyond Klopp's team, producing a thunderous drive to follow up his brace against Sheffield United in the last round.

Last season, they made the top four for the first time since 2013-14, despite conceding 42 goals, including 12 from set pieces.

"We had big chances and unusual situations but it's a 90-minute game".

Liverpool were thrashed 5-0 by Manchester City in a Premier League fixture after the worldwide break before drawing 2-2 with Sevilla in the Champions League.

The former Newcastle, Manchester City and Stoke goalkeeper said: "It was well-documented they wanted to sign Virgil van Dijk in the summer but didn't".

"You think a club of that size, when they can't get him there's a Plan B".

"First goal we don't push up together, I can say it one time or 1,000 times or whatever - it's not nice to have to concede these goals".

"But now they'll have to work on it on the training ground, as there is no magic wand".

Jurgen Klopp was heavily linked with Southampton star Van Dijk. Someone will have to step up.
