Nigeria army backtracks on Biafra 'militant terrorist' tag

Nigeria doesn’t need international help over IPOB- FG

Ogbizi who disclosed that the policeman; an Assistant Superintendent of Police that was injured during the Ariaria invasion died in a hospital where he was receiving medical attention said that efforts were already in place to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters on September 15 had said after an analysis of a set of actions undertaken by IPOB in recent months, "The Armed Forces of Nigeria wishes to confirm to the public that IPOB from all intent as analysed, is a militant terrorist organisation".

He said that they would be prosecuted under the anti-terrorism Act to ensure they were properly dealt with.

The Tide also calls on IPOB and other groups to apply extreme caution. Police stations were also attacked and destroyed in the process.

The Governors called on all residents to, irrespective of tribe and religion see themselves as equal Nigerians who have the same rights to freely live in any part of Nigeria as provided by the Nigerian Constitution which the Governors are under oath to preserve, protect and defend.

He also alleged that the group attacked a nearby bank to get money to acquire more weapons.

"Physical confrontation of troops by Nnamdi Kanu and other IPOB actors at a check point on September 11, 2017 and also attempt to snatch their rifles".

"We also wish to state that we have a privileged information that IPOB sponsors are mobilizing their members in the Diaspora to humiliate our dear President Muhammadu Buhari in NY where he is billed to address the United Nations General Assembly".

Ogbizi said that the army recovered several exhibits including the coat of arms of Biafra from the suspects. "I am not on this show to talk about the legality of IPOB but to say that the oxygen in which IPOB has been using has been withdrawn by this statement of the south-east governors", the minister said.

"We must not stop to let the police and Nigeria DHQ know that Biafra restoration project led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu can not be moved or dettered by any threats or killing of unarmed innocent civilian populations".

He denied the rumours circulating in the state that security agents have arrested Kanu's father.
