Nintendo Bringing Back NES Classic Edition, Ramping Up SNES Classic Supply

Ask LH: What Are My Chances Of Getting A Mini SNES On Launch Day?

Having learned the hard way a year ago that fan demand for an old-school Nintendo emulator can far, far outstrip supply, Nintendo announced today it plans to ship even more of its upcoming SNES Classic.

Additionally, more Super NES Classic Edition units will ship on launch day than NES Classic Edition units were shipped all previous year, with subsequent shipments arriving in stores regularly. In the same press release, Nintendo announced that they will bring back the NES Classic in the summer of 2018 with new shipments, something they had stated they were not going to do as its production was discontinued. At the time, Nintendo said it had no plans to manufacture any more.

The President of Nintendo of America wants to reassure fans that they won't have to resort to auction sites for a SNES Classic Mini.

The Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System contains 21 pre-installed classic games, can easily be plugged into any high-definition TV using the included HDMI cable. "You shouldn't [have to] pay more than $79.99".

The NES Classic Edition, which in its initial run sold 2.3 million units, includes 30 classic NES games, such as Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda.

Nintendo also confirmed that production of the SNES Classic will not cease at the end of 2017 as originally planned. Nintendo has also promised a far superior launch day effort than the NES Classic saw.

The company also promised to re-release it mini Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) next summer, after a criticized initial offering previous year.

Announcements were also made on Twitter with regards to the NES and SNES availability in Europe.

If you missed one of the scant chances to nab yourself an NES Classic Edition, there's good news.

The NES Classic-the first Nintendo gaming system to be released in the US back in 1985-won't be available until September 29, 2018, in Best Buy, GameStop, and some other retailers.
