Parts of Miami looked like rivers as Irma rolled through

Waves crash over a seawall from Biscayne Bay as Hurricane Irma passes by Sunday Sept. 10 2017 in Miami

On Sunday, parts of the central business district of Brickell were swamped when the storm surge overwhelmed the sea front and flooded several blocks of high-end hotels, businesses and condo buildings.

The massive cranes are symbolic of the construction boom reshaping Miami's skyline.

Abby Ape lives near where the crane collapsed in downtown Miami.

"I know it was very hard to bring down in two weeks", Ape said.

A woman in Miami who went into labor during Hurricane Irma delivered a baby girl at home after being talked through the delivery over the phone by doctors and emergency workers.

The storm slammed into Cudjoe Key at about 9 a.m. with maximum sustained winds of 130 miles per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The National Hurricane Center said winds hitting upper floors of high-rise buildings are significantly stronger than near ground level.

From 7pm local time Saturday to 7am Sunday, more than 430 calls came into the Miami fire department, according to Miami Fire Rescue Assistant Fire Chief Pete Gomez. The building was still in tact despite the crane's failure. The employee captured video of the collapse. When it collapsed it fell on top of the building under construction.
