Rebel Wilson awarded £2.7m in defamation case

Rebel Wilson attends the 5th Annual Australians in Film Awards at Neue House Hollywood in Los Angeles. A judge on Wednesday Sept. 13 2017 awarded Wilson 4.56 million Australian dollars

Dixon defended the high payout as necessary to vindicate the actress.

While Wilson was not in court on Wednesday, she did speak about the Judge's ruling on Twitter, thanking fans for their love and support. Women's Day published the allegations knowing they were false, and that they would circulate in global celebrity media. Magazine and New Weekly.

They also found Bauer had said Wilson lied about having a hallucination about winning an Academy Award while sick with malaria, about her parents being dog trainers, about being related to USA entertainment entrepreneur Walt Disney and about being raised in a "ghetto" area of Sydney. Approximately 3.25 million euros, which will be used to cover legal fees and to compensate the actress for the roles that she has not won.

Even so, Bauer was so sure that it would win that it decided not to settle out of court for $200,000, according to the Guardian.

Wilson describes herself as a "cashed-up bogan" from a family that bred dogs for shows and ran a caravan business called Petcetera Etcetera selling animal toys and dog chocolates.

The actress said the lawsuit against her prompted her to sue the company, which had caused her and her family deep distress.

In 2015, Wilson was riding a career high with hits such as Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect 2, but she said after the articles ran, she lost roles in movies such as Kung Fu Panda 3.

What happened at the trial?
The law firm representing Wilson says that the payout is unprecedented in Australia. Wilson then performs the rap for the court.

The journalist warns that readers should expect fewer "shock pregnancies, divorces and affairs" on the covers of magazines, unless the celebrity has confirmed the veracity of the story first.

The judgement of the court is that the defendants Bauer Media Pty Ltd ... pay the plaintiff Rebel Wilson damages totaling $4,567,472 before interest and costs are added.
