Michelle Rounds, who was suffering from depression, had made a first suicide attempt in September 2015, less than a year after her separation with Rosie O'donnell.

Rosie O'Donnell's ex-wife Michelle Rounds died Monday of apparent suicide at her home.

"I am saddened to hear about this bad tragedy", O'Donnell told TMZ. Mental illness is a very serious problem that affects many families.

Rosie and Michelle started dating in 2011 and got married in a private ceremony in June 2012. O'Donnell said previous year that she had sole custody of their daughter. They first started dating in 2011 and Wednesday a year later.

The obituary for Rounds says that she "died unexpectedly".

Despite her efforts to spread awareness, O'Donnell received comments from social media users blaming her for her ex-wife's death, claiming the former View host kept their 4-year-old daughter Dakota away from Rounds.

TMZ reported that Michelle killed herself as he mother reportedly wrote on Facebook reaching out to others struggling with suicidal thoughts. The divorce would have been particularly painful for the duo, who tore the custody of her daughter. O'Donnell also retweeted a fan's message offering support and information on suicide prevention Friday.

Back in 2015, Rounds was reportedly hospitalized for a drug overdose after taking too many prescription pills.
