Sushma Swaraj urges SCO to tackle terror together

UN India Climate

He added that Sushma Swaraj also attended the United Nations secretary general's meeting on select leaders on climate change.

Talking about terrorism, Sushma said, "The horror of terrorism continues to haunt global peace and security".

In a veiled attack on Pakistan, Sushma said that the terror groups draw sustenance from support systems in South Asia.

"Complete elimination of poverty is the foremost objective of the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals", External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said as the chair of the IBSA (India, Brazil, South Africa) Foreign Ministers' Meeting here on the sidelines of the 72nd UN General Assembly Session.

"They (terror outfits) continue to find support and shelter in countries which use terrorism as an instrument of State Policy", she said.

The Minister called on her counterparts from BRICS to condemn efforts to sponsor the menace.

She asked BRICS ministers to work on pace to conclude negotiations and adoptaion of Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCIT) in the United Nations.

"We also mentioned that Indian and France are working together on worldwide Solar Alliance", he said.

One of the effective ways to stop cross-country support for terrorism is the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCCIT), which has been in a limbo for decades because some countries can not agree on a definition of terrorists. India and Pakistan joined the grouping as full members in June in Astana. She also said India, as a member of SCO, will cooperate extensively to further consolidate the SCO as an effective regional platform.

While speaking at the ad hoc Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Meeting of Foreign Ministers in New York, Swaraj has said that there can't be a justification for any acts of terrorism.
