Thatgamecompany Unveils Apple-Exclusive Mobile Game 'Sky'

New iOS-Exclusive Game Sky Announced for Apple TV iPad and iPhone at Apple Event

Don't get us wrong, thatgamecompany will always get our pulse racing, but seeing as this is a studio that went from flOw to flower to one of the greatest games of all time, it's a bit unusual to see it spend five years settling on what (on the surface, at least) appears to be the same thing. The game is called Sky and it's coming first for Apple TV, iPhone, and iPad.

The game's mechanics will be touch based, as is the case for the majority of mobile games, and takes place (obviously) in the sky as players control a caped, colorful character as they soar from one area to another through the clouds. This, according to Chen, makes Sky incredibly approachable to everyone.

Sky is described as a social adventure game, with up to eight players worldwide able to play together as shown briefly in the teaser above. Chen, who considers himself a games evangelist, wanted the company's next title to be on a platform that's largely accessible by most people, including non-console gamers.

On their official blog, Thatgamecompany wrote "If you can imagine the delight of visiting a theme park where lasting memories are made, we envision Sky will sometimes feel like that". When a new Apple TV with beefed up hardware was rumored earlier this week, we wondered what that might mean for gaming on the device, which has thus far had a hard time taking off since the new Apple TV App Store was introduced a couple of years ago.
