Amazon Alexa now recognizes your voice

Amazon Echo Show Price Dropped By $30

The Alexa voice recognition is rolling out from today, though you'll need to do a little more to get it working than just wait for your Echo to be silently upgraded.

Starting today, you'll be able to train Alexa to recognize your voice.

To set it up, you'll need to navigate to the "Your Voice" section of the Alexa app's settings, then follow Amazon's instructions (you can also find an instructional video here).

The Amazon Echo Show comes with a 7 inch display and features dual 2.0 inch speakers, the device comes with Amazon's Alexa voice activated assistant built in. Once created, personalized results can be delivered through any Alexa-enabled device, including third-party ones that use the Alexa Voice Service. You'll go to your account settings and tap Your Voice, then tap on your profile name.

In April, Google announced it was bringing individual profiles to its Google Home speaker thanks to its ability to discern individual voices.

The feature is one of the spots where Amazon has been playing catch up with Google, in spite of its multi-year head start.

A spokesperson tells The Verge voice recognition will work for calling and messaging, flash briefing, shopping, and the Amazon Music Unlimited Family Plan with more features to come. Amazon says voice recognition will get "smarter over time" the more it's used.

Everyone in the home using Alexa should do the same thing, teaching the assistant who to expect to hear from.
