Baroka FC goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke left the country for London last night with high hopes of becoming the first African to win the Puskas Award.

Giroud scored an outstanding scorpion kick for Arsenal against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on New Year's Day.

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud and Venezuelan Under-17 player Deyna Castellanos are the two others who made the final short-list of three.

Giroud, 31, won the award at a star-studded bash hosted by A-lister Idris Elba at the London Palladium. I would like to congratulate the other nominees who scored awesome goals too and I would like to thank my team-mates, without them I couldn't score maybe this goal.

Even though the 24-year-old missed out on those awards, he won many hearts across the world - including Nigerian legend Jay-Jay Okocha, legendary sprinter Usain Bolt and former Chelsea manager Roberto di Matteo, who were impressed by the spectacular goal that was scored by a goalkeeper.

His victor at Red Star Belgrade had echoes of his strike against Crystal Palace as he hit an exquisite overhead kick into the top corner.

"Obviously I would like to thank my teammates, without them I couldn't score maybe this goal, and my family".

Sanchez looked up and curled a cross into the area for the onrushing Giroud, who flicked the ball off his boot and over the despairing dive of Wayne Hennessey in the Palace goal. I would like to dedicate this trophy to my dad'.
